The Ethiopic Running Experience is a unique travel adventure that offers a glimpse into the lives of the world’s top endurance athletes. The “secret” of running success in Ethiopia is largely debated, but train for a little while with top Ethiopian athletes and you’ll begin to find out.
Most Ethiopian athletes train on hilly terrain in the forest, but trail racing is still a new sport for the elite athletes. Our spring tour revolves around the Wenchi Lake Trail race – an 11 mile circuit around Wenchi Crater Lake mostly above 10,000 feet. The summer tour coincides with Ethiotrail – the first trail race in Ethiopia, which includes a full and half marathon.
If you’re not into racing, you can do a short (1-3 days) tour through the running hotspots in the country. We can also help organize an extended stay for you or your team to train in Ethiopia.
Mission
We want to provide excellent service to our customers and build the sport tourism industry in Ethiopia through socially and environmentally sustainable practices.
Employment
We employ local guides. Of the thousands of aspiring runners in Ethiopia, only a few make it to the international stage. For the rest, finding employment can be a challenge, but guiding is one opportunity that can make a difference.
Community Development
A portion of the tour price is set aside to support social and entrepreneurial programs in the communities we visit.
Environment
We support conservation and natural resource management in national parks and natural areas. Trail running, especially, gives an added value and incentive to protect the natural resources of the country.
Respect
We operate with respect of the local culture and train our guides and customers to be mindful of local culture and customs.
